Introduction
From the Boudet website (via Google Translate):
Hailing from the southern Allier region, the Boudet family has produced five artisan carpenters and cabinetmakers since the end of the 19th century. Each instrument is personalized.
It is the result of careful attention and the selection of the finest materials, all designed to enhance your musicality.
I [Jean-Claude Boudet] established myself in 1963 and quickly specialized in traditional violin making. In 1990, I took over from the old Pajot houses (founded in 1795). The seniority of our house is confirmation of our seriousness.
My son, Claude-Emmanuel, took his place at my side in 1997, thus ensuring the tradition. Now independent, he manages his own production within his own artisanal business.
Jenzat is a small village located on the borders of Auvergne and Bourbonnais, about 50 kilometers north of Clermont-Ferrand, which became the center of hurdy-gurdy manufacturing over two centuries ago.
More than 20 craftsmen have succeeded one another, each working to develop construction techniques until they obtained instruments of exceptional quality.
Many remember the Pajot lineage, Pimpart and Angioux, Nigoux, Tixier, Decante, and Caille.
The technique and quality continue today with Claude-Emmanuel and Jean-Claude Boudet.
